Loch Primary School is nestled in the delightful township of Loch, surrounded by the beautiful rolling hills of South Gippsland.
Our school has a successful and consistent history of providing high quality education and developing confident, happy and capable students. Our students enjoy the benefits of highly skilled and passionate educators who are constantly involved in professional development and aware of and implement current educational research and initiatives. We are a strong team and together have developed a very special school with excellent programs and a focus on developing the whole child. Healthy relationships and wellbeing play a crucial role in how we achieve our outstanding learning outcomes.
Our school grounds are natural gardens with engaging play spaces for all ages. Students enjoy a large lush oval, undercover basketball court and outdoor netball court, a large sand pit, two separate adventure playground spaces, a rotunda and picnic tables, a greenhouse, a boat and a bush hut. A favourite space for our students is the Secret Garden which includes: a fairy garden, a cubby house, a shaded tee pee, walkways and a bridge. This space is designed by our students and a special place for imaginative play and relaxation. Our chooks roam the grounds daily and students are able to visit our two school cows in our Pine Tree Hill paddock.
Our well-resourced facilities include:
The average student enrolment of approximately 140 is drawn from the town, small subdivisions and farms, with a number of students travelling to school by bus. Our school’s smaller enrolment ensures our staff know each individual child and their family and provides opportunities to develop strong positive relationships for learning. Our families and community are highly involved in our school and are welcomed and encouraged to participate in a range of events and activities.
Our school provides a comprehensive learning program across all year levels using the Victorian Curriculum. This curriculum includes learning in the following domains: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities - History, Geography, Economics, Civics & Citizenship, The Arts – Dance, Drama, Music, Media Arts, Health & Physical Education, Technologies and Languages. We also explicitly teach capabilities including: Critical and Creative Thinking, Ethical, Intercultural, Personal and Social Capabilities.
Teachers work closely together to ensure effective planning, a sequential curriculum approach and differentiated learning models to meet the needs of individual students. We enjoy flexible timetabling arrangements and team teaching occurs at all year levels. Students learn in a range of groupings including mixed ability, like ability, cross age and interest based.
Our school team consists of the Principal and experienced teachers who share the responsibilities of school management and curriculum delivery. There are six classroom teachers, one learning specialist and part time specialist teachers for Digi Tech, French and Art. A Business Manager, five Integration Aides and two ES administration staff complete our staffing profile.
Loch Primary School aims to develop inquisitive and caring students who participate responsibly in their communities and are able to make informed decisions. They are encouraged to develop to their individual potential, to build self-esteem and to experience success at school and in the wider community. The school is committed to providing a challenging and stimulating curriculum in a positive, safe and friendly environment.
